Utility Meter Tech with Some Plumbing Experience – Traveling

We are immediately seeking a full-time residential and commercial Utility Meter Technician to perform daily utility sub-metering system maintenance and meter reading duties for multifamily and commercial clients.

A company VEHICLE is provided as WEEKLY in-state and out of state traveling is required. Hotel accommodations and per diem provided for days worked when an overnight stay is required.

Plumbing experience including sweating copper pipe is required. You will perform routine maintenance on wireless water and electric sub-metering systems which will include installation, replacement and testing of specific system components. Some electrical skills are necessary as work may include testing electrical outlets, re-piping CPVC and copper lines near existing water meters and replacing unit water shut off valves.

Several weeks of training will be provided to the candidate selected that has the skill set described and experience in plumbing, light electrical and computer/cellphone literacy.

This position requires excellent communication skills, exceptional organization and a high level of professionalism.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Visually read meter heads
  • Plumbing work involving cutting pipe, removing and installing meters, couplings, shut off valves, checking for leaks
  • Performs sub-metering equipment testing, repairs and installations as directed
  • Electrical work involving receptacles, breakers and switches
  • Provides consistent, detailed reporting of daily work performed and materials used
  • Performs physical property inspections for future sub-metering installations
  • Maintain company vehicle and inventory of equipment, tools, and supplies
  • Upholds commitment to excellence and timeliness
  • Performs additional tasks or duties assigned by Project Managers
  • Communicate effectively with community members, maintenance personnel, retail owners, and residents upon direction of Project Managers


  • 3+ years’ experience
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Able to operate a smart phone and tablet
  • Own a personal computer and printer
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, math and problem solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented
  • Weekly travel required – home on the weekends. Able to work on emergency calls and extended hours (including after-hours and weekends)

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs
  • Ability to work outdoors and unconditioned hallways, mechanical rooms, attics and crawl spaces
  • Able to frequently stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; crawl, carry
  • Frequently lift, move and carry up to 50lbs
  • Work quickly and efficiently

"Midway services is great. I called in a panic because I thought I killed my garbage disposal. I called in the morning and by the afternoon we had Felix come out. He fixed our garbage disposal and leaky pipe. He was very knowledgeable, experienced, and friendly. He took great care not to make a mess. He wore boot covers as to not track in dirt. We needed our a/c serviced at 4am and Midway had someone out within the hour. He was friendly, informative, and thorough. Luckily it was a minor thing and we were very pleased with three service AND the cost..... so much so that we have contracted with Midway to service or a/c twice a year and our hot water heater once a year at a cost that is only a few dollars more annually than my Amazon prime account. So worth it!

"I have requested Shane as my tech and Midway has gone out of there way to make him available. Jeff has also been involved in resolving my A/C issues. Midway's techs, operators and senior officers have gone above the normal customer service regarding my A/C units. I own a large laundromat and have two large units that require scheduled maintenance and work. I am please with Midways service."

Had several bids to replace our entire HVAC system that crashed. Midway Services gave a great price and advice on the system we needed. Installed in 1-day and with extreme professionalism. We could not have been more satisfied. Their Techs were amazing and even cleaned the house before leaving. We had an emergency with our AC unit one evening and Midway Services sent out HVAC service Dom L. He was fantastic! He temporarily fixed the problem so our AC worked that night until the part came in a few days later. Dom sat with us and gave us all of our options with prices. He made us feel very comfortable in choosing the best option for us (even since our unit was a quite few years old.) He was very upfront and honest on our options and let us choose the best route for us. We appreciated his honesty. We had some water leaking a few days later and we requested Dom back and he fixed the leak and replaced all the new parts that came in. He worked very hard and cleaned over and beyond (it was more cleaning that he thought.) He even took our wet rugs (we had in our garage) out to dry! He went over and beyond.
