The 5 Worst Things to Do to Your Toilet
Posted on: March 8, 2018
Your toilet is one your most trusted household plumbing fixtures, and it’s often one of the most misused. Most of your family’s daily habits might seem innocent, but they could be the primary cause of your toilet woes. To keep your toilet in great shape, here are five things you’ll want to avoid:
1. Flushing The Wrong Things
Always remember – your toilet is not a dumpster, so stop treating it as one. The only thing that should go down the toilet is human waste and toilet paper, that is it. Anything else can lead you to severe plumbing damage.
2. Trying To DIY It All
Not all plumbing issues are created equal, and if you think you might have a significant plumbing issue your best bet is to call in a pro. Trying to fix something yourself that you are unsure of can do further damage and cost you more money in the long run, so if it seems complicated — it probably is.
3. Over Using Toilet Fresheners
Though the blue water might look more pleasing, it’s harming your plumbing. That blue color contains chemicals that damages the inner parts of your toilet, so the next time you plan on picking up those blue tabs, save yourself the plumbing repairs and few dollars and walk on by.
4.Using The Wrong Toilet Paper
Though it might be nicer to use, not all plumbing can handle that fluffy extra soft toilet paper that you might have gotten a custom too, especially if you have a septic tank. Next time you are low on T.P. make sure it’s a good match for your plumbing.
5. Ignoring The Subtle Signs
A constant clog, a slow flushing toilet or a slow leak is all signs of something more. Though it might seem like a little issue now, if ignored, it will lead to a significant issue later. Fixing your problems asap is something you’ll want to put on the top of your list.
