Knowing Your Generator Options

Posted on: September 22, 2017

“Hope for the best, plan for the worst.” It’s a phrase we’ve all heard but perhaps has never rang more true than in these past few weeks. As we begin to recover from Hurricane Irma, we want to shed some light on the importance of generators. So if you are looking to invest in a generator for your home, here’s what you should know about your options:

What to Consider When Buying a Generator

  • “What appliances am I powering?” In the event of a power outage, are you looking to power the bare minimum (a few lights, the stove, and your hot water heater) or do you want to supply power to your entire house? The more appliances you’re looking to run, the larger and more powerful your generator will have to be.
  • “Where will I install the generator?” Generally speaking, your generator should be installed somewhere where it’s easily accessible and sheltered from rain and wind.
  • “Will I need to move the generator?” Particularly in the face of disaster, people are often moving from one place to another. If you want to have the power to pick up and leave with your generator at a moments notice, you may want to consider a portable generator.

Knowing Your Generator Options

At Midway Services, we understand that no family’s needs are the same, that’s why we offer several different types of generators to best suit your desires.

  • Portable Generator. As we mentioned above, portable generators are great for families who want to take their generator with them, are looking to power a motor home, or want the ability to bring it to a work or construction site. However, because it’s portable, it’s relatively smaller than standby generators and therefore less powerful.
  • Standby (Permanent) Generator. As our most popular generator option, standby generators are perfect for larger homes that are in high-risk areas for power outages. Permanently stationed outside of your home, they will automatically turn on if your house loses power and shut off the moment power is returned.
  • Automatic Standby Generator. Because these require fewer gas refills, automatic standby generators are an excellent choice for people looking to save a couple of bucks. They’re also incredibly safe, as they carry less risk for carbon dioxide poisoning than other models.

From installation to maintenance, Midway Services can handle all of your home’s generator needs. We are proud of our commitment to your total satisfaction. Get your free estimate today!
