3 Tips to Improve Indoor Air Quality
Posted on: July 6, 2017
When’s the last time you thought about your air quality? Now, what about your indoor air quality? An issue that is often swept under the rug, poor indoor air quality is a common problem. Luckily, there are several ways you can fight it. So if allergens are getting you down, try these three tips to improve your indoor air quality:
1. Regularly Clean
Your sheets, your pillow cases, and your floor can all be the perfect place for allergens and dust mites to linger. Wash your bed sheets weekly and if you suffer from asthma or allergies, consider investing in a hypoallergenic top sheet. To keep the floors clear of pet dander, pollen, and dust mites, vacuum and mop at least two times a week. To keep allergens from making their way in — place doormats at every door and remove shoes before walking through the house.
2. Avoid Chemicals
The first thing you can do is look at your cleaning products. Cleaners such as ammonia and bleach emit gases and should be used in extremely minimal doses. When used, be sure to ventilate the room. Another common allergen is air fresheners! So skip the spray air fresheners and go natural. Simmer a pot of cinnamon or place two cap fulls of vanilla extract in a coffee cup and put in the oven at 300 degrees for one hour. Let cool before removing. Both natural and excellent ways to keep your home naturally smelling fresh.
3. Control the Humidity
With the summer heat can come that pesky humidity. Though we might not love it, mold and dust mites do! To keep them under control, you’ll want to maintain the humidity at around 30-50 percent. Run your bathroom exhaust fan whenever you shower and don’t forget to rely on your HVAC unit. Not only will it keep your home cool, but most modern day systems contain air filters that significantly increase your air quality and reduce allergy symptoms.
