Drain Cleaning: What To Do When You Have a Clog
Posted on: July 15, 2015
No matter if it is the kitchen sink, bathroom sink, shower, or bathtub most Clearwater homeowners will need to deal with a clog eventually. And if you get regular drain cleaning services, you may not know how to tackle this problem. Luckily, at Midway, we know there are more than a few solutions, and we are here to help you!
DIY Drain Cleaning
If it seems like the water is draining much slower than normal, you can probably get away with a few DIY drain cleaning methods to clear out the clog. However, under no circumstances should you ever buy chemical cleaners; these will not only corrode your Clearwater home’s pipes, damaging them, but they are also harmful for the environment. Instead, you can use a few common household products to get the job done.
- You can try to fish out the clog with a straightened wire hanger. You will need to be careful to not push the clog further down the pipes!
- Using baking soda and vinegar can be extremely effective. Mix 1/3 cup of baking soda with 1/3 cup of vinegar, and pour that mixture down the drain as soon as it starts to fizz. Let that sit for at least an hour, as it works its way through the clog. Then, pour hot water to flush everything out.
- If you don’t have any vinegar, you can pour salt and baking soda down the pipe, wait for about 15 minutes, and then pour boiling water down after then. These three ingredients will create a reaction to break up the clog.
